Better Woman
03:49
|
|||
The last time we kissed, you were leaving.
Headin’ out the door, and I don’t know why.
I guess you left me for another,
And all I can do now is cry.
Did you think I didn’t love you?
You got nothing to prove to me.
I’m the one who needs to show you
Just how much you mean to me.
So come back, I promise I’ll be better.
Come back and we can start again.
I’ll be a better woman and you’ll be a better man,
Come back to me and we can start again.
Every day I hear your laughter
Echo down the halls of our home.
And every night I feel your soft touch
Even in my dreams when I’m alone.
So come back, I promise I’ll be better.
Come back and we can start again.
I’ll be a better woman and you’ll be a better man,
Come back to me and we can start again.
I hope that it won’t be a long time
Before you walk back through that door.
You know, my arms are always open
To love you more.
So come back, I promise I’ll be better.
Come back and we can start again.
I’ll be a better woman and you’ll be a better man,
Come back to me and we can start again.

Montana
03:52
|
|||
Highway’s lonely as the dark settles in;
My radio’s busted, lost the signal again.
My mind is on the road, but my heart’s home with you in Montana, Montana.
Miles unfold as the moon begins to rise.
I just keep driving, gotta open up my eyes.
Every car I pass brings me one mile closer to Montana, Montana.
The night is growing colder, but every hour I feel bolder.
Without you my dreams went up in flames,
Now you and Montana won’t stop calling my name—I’m coming home.
Oh, Montana, I’m on my way back home.
Oh, Montana, my baby’s there, his love is making me strong.
There were all kinds of reasons for leaving you behind,
But only one reason for me being so blind.
I’m worn out from grieving so I’m headed home to Montana, Montana.
The night is growing colder, but every hour I feel bolder.
Without you my dreams went up in flames,
Now you and Montana won’t stop calling my name.
The highway’s lonely as the dark settles in;
My radio’s busted, lost the signal again.
My mind is on the road, but my heart’s home with you;
Every car I pass brings me one mile closer;
I’m worn out from grieving, so I’m headed home,
I’m headed home, to Montana, Montana.

Queen of the County
03:37
|
|||
She’s queen of the county, her hand’s on the wheel.
The crowd at her feet knows she feels what they feel.
Her story’s an old one, but newer than morning;
When she sings, she’s queen of the county.
Oh, so beautiful.
Oh, so strong.
Her story’s an old one, but newer than morning;
When she sings, she’s queen of the county.
Her mama and daddy were singers by trade
They took her along for the ride.
She’d sing after hours, dragged from her bed
They paid her in kisses and pats on the head.
She’s queen of the county, her hand’s on the wheel.
The crowd at her feet knows she feels what they feel.
Her story’s an old one, but newer than morning;
When she sings, she’s queen of the county.
Her mama left home and never returned;
Her daddy, he turned to the bottle.
So she pulls herself up by her bootstraps each night
And pours out her sorrows in song.
She’s queen of the county, a bright shining star.
Love won’t let her go—it’s brought her this far.
In her red cowboy boots and her voice full of truth;
When she sings, she’s queen of the county.
Oh, so beautiful.
Oh, so strong.
In her red cowboy boots and her voice full of truth;
When she sings, she’s queen of the county.
Her story’s an old one, but newer than morning;
When she sings, she’s queen of the county.

No One Tells You
02:55
|
|||
No one tells you what it’s like to grow old.
No one tells you ‘cause
They don’t know until they get there.
No one tells you where the road is gonna turn.
No one tells you:
You just gotta learn to look ahead and leave the past behind.
When it rains, when it snows
Have a friend nearby, someone who knows that
Your deepest heart is always young
And your greatest song is yet to be sung.
How many days will fly?
You know that time is not on your side.
No promises, no expectations
Just take each moment at a time.
No one can tell how your story’s gonna end
All that matters is the love you leave your friends on the journey.
No one tells you where the road is gonna turn;
No one tells you:
You just gotta learn to look ahead and leave the past behind.
When it’s dark, and when it’s cold
Have a friend nearby, someone who knows that
Your rebel soul will always take a stand
And your greatest dreams are close at hand.
That your deepest heart is always young
And your greatest song is yet to be sung.

Some Days
02:29
|
|||
Some days I feel like trying,
Some days I feel like flying.
Other days, I feel like lying down.
I go to work to make a living,
Sometimes it feels like dying.
I laugh so hard, I start to cry, some days.
Some days are like water,
Some days are like stone,
Other days are like mountains made of sand.
On days like this I wonder how to keep my head--
I know I wanna keep holding onto your hand.
Aw, some days.
I wish I knew what was true,
I need a map I need a clear direction.
‘Cause if I lose my desire, I might lose my way
With no recollection of my path to resurrection.
Some days I feel like trying,
Some days I feel like flying,
Other days, I wanna lie right down.
Some days I’m invisible, I don’t wanna be seen.
But tonight I ‘m gonna tear up this town,
I’m gonna bring it crashing to the ground—
Aw, some days, some days.

Heaven Help Us
03:00
|
|||
Seems like trouble is the word of the day.
Even the children have forgotten how to play.
Everywhere I go, we’re all feeling the strain,
Searching for a purpose, but we’re living in vain.
The world that we once knew feels upside down:
The thieves pay no price and
they’re the ones wearing the crowns.
Nobody feels safe to walk the streets at night alone—
I wonder who’s to blame, and who needs to atone?
Heaven help us to love one another.
Heaven help us to be kind.
When the rain comes down, as it surely will,
And we’re feeling the pain and we’ve had our fill
Heaven help us not to drown.
Heaven help us, heaven help us.
Have neighbors become strangers,
And the strangers, who are they?
Are friends just faces on a screen?
What’s happening to you and me?
Is the world that all it could be?
Heaven help us to love one another.
Heaven help us to be kind.
When the rain comes down, as it surely will,
And we’re feeling the pain, and we’ve had our fill
Heaven help us not to drown.
Heaven help us, heaven help us.

Grace and Mercy
03:21
|
|||
Daddy taught me right from wrong
Mama sang me all her songs
Thought I’d be alright--what did they know?
Too many times I skinned my knees
Trying too hard to please everybody
Everybody, but me.
Now, I don’t like certainty
Got no use for guarantees
My favorite place ain’t no place at all
I’m no fool, I don’t live by rules
And I never liked going to school
I live by grace and mercy.
One day I hit the road
Jumped on a Harley, rode out into the cold
Miles and miles from where I was known.
Wound my way to California
I’d heard that sunshine there will warm ya
And make ya whole again.
Left my compass far behind
Now I’m past, way past, the Great Divide—
But then I’ve never liked certainty
Got no use for guarantees
My favorite place ain’t no place at all.
Just open trails and aqua seas;
I’m gonna live for eternity
By grace, by grace, by grace,
And mercy, mercy, mercy.

Redemption
03:14
|
|||
When the sun goes down and the last bird sings, and night rolls down the mountain,
This is the time when nothin’s good and darkness lies around us.
Stars are tiny pricks of light, so very far away.
Promise to stay close tonight, we’ll wait for the break of day.
Ain’t nothin’ like a Southern rain to wash your memory clean.
We all need redemption like the world ain’t never seen.
Our prayers float up to an empty sky, all heaven will allow.
But ain’t no god gonna come from heaven to help us anyhow—if you’ll
Hold on, here comes a better day.
Hold on, the world is turning.
Hold on, time is on our side:
Redemption’s coming.
Redemption’s coming.
When the bells ring out and the last note sounds, our songs will fill the air.
Morning light will blaze so bright into the atmosphere.
The rising sun’s a magic man, the morning’s a reprieve.
When darkness fades, you’ll have a reason to believe—if you’ll
Hold on, here comes a better day.
Hold on, the world is turning.
Hold on, time is on our side:
Redemption’s coming, if you’ll
Hold on, here comes a better day.
Hold on, the world is turning.
Hold on, time is on our side:
Redemption’s coming.
Redemption’s coming.
Redemption’s coming.

St. Charles
03:20
|
|||
I’m down on St. Charles, hoping for a ride.
Waitin’ for a streetcar, I must be standing on the wrong side.
I keep flaggin’ ‘em down; they keep passin’ me by.
I’m stuck on St. Charles again.
I know all the drivers and they know me by name.
Every ride’s different but the days all feel the same.
Yesterday’s sun has gone and turned into rain--
I’m stuck on St. Charles again.
It’s so hot out here, I could sure use a drink.
Good thing there’s a bar right across the street.
I’ve got a good friend who could save me a seat--
But I’m stuck on St. Charles again.
Here comes one up around the bend
That shiny headlight is looking like my last friend.
My man’s at home cooking supper for me
I’m the luckiest woman that could ever be.
Been workin’ all day, God you know I’m so tired
Cleanin’ up messes that other folks leave behind.
Days rushin’ past me like the cars on this line,
I’m stuck on St. Charles again.
Here comes one up around the bend.
That shiny headlight is looking like my last and best friend.
Well it’s getting’ late, and I’m still waitin’ for that ride.
Still hopin’ for a streetcar; am I waiting on the wrong side?
Cause I’m flagging ‘em down and they still passin’ me by.
Guess I’m just stuck on St. Charles again.

Kick it Up
02:53
|
|||
Sometimes this life can be too much to bear--
A crushing burden, we’re forgetting how to care
Tired of listening to bad news
Politicians and political views.
I need some time away before it’s too late--
Gotta kick up some sand on the double!
Gotta break this big depressing bubble!
Find some happiness, and make my own way,
I’ll be laughing by the end of the day.
Nothin’ like sunshine to lighten up the load.
I’m gonna open up a map and then hit the road!
It’s time to get free, high time to unwind.
Kick up some sand, it’s time!
Let’s go for a ride, and we’ll see what’s around the bend.
Maybe we’ll dance till dawn and make us some new friends.
Life is short for sure--if we’re getting less, gotta ask for more.
Kick up some sand, it’s time!
It’s time to get free, high time to unwind
Kick up some sand, it’s time!
Kick up some sand, it’s time!

Emily Misunderstood
03:14
|
|||
Emily, so misunderstood.
Emily, are you up to no good?
Are you shy, or just lonely?
When you walk down the street you shun everyone you meet.
Are you so shy, or just lonely?
Nobody has a clue what it’s like to walk around in your shoes;
They think they know you so well.
But you’re trapped in a private hell, oh, Emily.
Your lover ran away.
When he came back you made sure he stayed
Cause Emily, you're so lonely.
When you died what did they find?
But pieces of a shattered mind--poor, poor, lost and lonely Emily.
Here’s a rose for your grave, a little late to save you now, oh, Emily.
Your life is now an open book but most people are afraid to look,
Oh Emily.
When you died what did they find?
But pieces of a shattered mind, poor, poor, lost and lonely Emily.
Here’s a rose for your grave
A little late to save you now.
Cause all that’s left is a memory and a story of Emily.

Her Kind
02:31
|
|||
She’s been judged, been mistreated
She’s been hated, but not defeated
Like a witch, she’s been hunted
I’ve been her kind.
She don’t need love; it’s over-rated.
Misunderstood and uncreated.
Like a witch, you wanna burn her alive, well
I’ve been her kind.
Her kind is my kind.
She and I are of one mind.
All we need is kindness to survive.
Pray for her to the Goddess.
She wants freedom, not forgiveness;
Is she bad for saying no to you?
I am her kind.
Been everywhere,nowhere’s mine
Lived out my age, I’m outta time
Like a witch, I’ll cast my spell
At the ringing of freedom’s bell!
We’ve been judged, been mistreated
We’ve been hated, but not defeated
Like a witch, our souls are hunted
We are all her kind.
